EU General Data Protection Regulations – GDPR

04 Jul 2018

It is likely you will have heard by now about the new EU General Data Protection Regulations, GDPR.

What is GDPR?

Since 25th May 2018, it has been a legal requirement that website users must be made aware of what data site owners collect, how it is used and to make them aware that they have the right to access their data, and have their data deleted on request.

And WooCommerce’s article on GDPR: https://woocommerce.com/2017/12/gdpr-compliance-woocommerce/

And our own policy: https://www.scl.co.uk/privacy-policy/

Failure to comply can incur a fine of 4% of the Business’s global annual turnover or €20,000,000 (whichever is greater).

How we can help

Compliance can, in the main, be achieved by making a number of straightforward updates to the website.

These include having a clear and consistent ‘Privacy Policy’ page and a cookie notice. You should also make sure your users consent to your privacy policy by having a checkbox (unchecked) on any contact forms you have and (in the case of an e-commerce store) on your checkout page.

SCL have helped a number of customers update their site’s ‘Privacy Policy’ page. We can offer suggestions as to how to inform your customers of the GDPR regulations and their rights.

If you would like assistance updating your website’s Privacy Policy or any other matter to help the site comply with GDPR, SCL would be happy to help.
